MagicSchool AI: A Teaching Assistant Built for Schools

MagicSchool is an AI platform made for K-12 teachers and their students. Instead of a blank chat box, it gives teachers a library of ready-made tools for planning, marking and writing to parents. It also offers a student side, so teachers can run guided AI activities in class. It is aimed at classroom teachers first, and at districts that want AI with guardrails.

What does MagicSchool do?

MagicSchool turns common teaching jobs into one-click tools. You pick a tool, enter the grade level and topic, and get a draft you can edit.

The teacher library has more than 80 tools. They include a lesson plan generator, rubric generator, multiple choice quiz maker and presentation generator. There are tools for report card comments, professional emails and rewriting a text at a different reading level. An IEP generator drafts an individual education plan for a student's needs, and Writing Feedback marks student essays against your own criteria.

There is also a chat assistant called Raina for anything the tools do not cover. On paid plans, teachers get more than 50 student tools and student rooms. A teacher sets up an activity, students use AI inside it, and the teacher sees what they asked. The company says it does not use student or teacher data to train AI.

Which features stand out?

  • 80+ teacher tools — lesson plans, rubrics, quizzes, IEPs, report comments and more
  • Writing Feedback — feedback on student writing against criteria you set
  • Student rooms — guided AI activities with teacher oversight, on paid plans
  • Raina — a chat assistant for open-ended teaching questions
  • Integrations — works with Google Docs, Google Classroom and Canvas, with Clever and ClassLink for districts
  • Privacy claims — FERPA, COPPA, SOC 2 and GDPR compliance listed on every plan

How much does MagicSchool cost?

There are three plans:

  • Free — $0 forever, with the 80+ teacher tools, Raina, and standard access to quizzes and class writing feedback
  • Plus — $12.99 a month, or $8.33 a month billed yearly ($99.96 a year), adding unlimited generations, output history, the 50+ student tools and student insights
  • Enterprise — custom pricing for districts, with a custom data privacy agreement, single sign-on, LMS and SIS integrations and admin controls

The pricing page does not state how many generations the free plan allows before you hit a limit.

Who is MagicSchool for?

MagicSchool suits classroom teachers who want to cut planning and marking time. The company claims teachers save 7 to 10 hours a week on average. Special education teachers get the IEP tools. School leaders and districts get the Enterprise plan, which adds the controls and data agreements most districts need before rolling out AI to students.

Where does MagicSchool fall short?

The free plan leaves out the student side. If you want students to use AI inside a guided activity, you need Plus or a district plan.

The outputs still need a teacher's eye. A generated lesson plan or IEP draft can be generic, miss your local standards, or get facts wrong. The IEP tool in particular handles sensitive student needs, so every draft needs careful review before it goes anywhere official.

Usage limits on the free plan are not spelled out. Heavy users may hit a wall without knowing where it is. And the platform is built around US schools, so teachers elsewhere may find the standards, grade names and compliance claims less relevant.

Is MagicSchool worth trying?

Yes. The free plan covers the teacher tools most people need, so a teacher can test it on next week's planning at no cost. Upgrade to Plus only if you want the student rooms or hit the free limits. Districts should go straight to Enterprise for the data agreement.
