Softr is a no-code builder for business apps. You describe a client portal, a CRM or an inventory tracker. It assembles the interface, the database and the workflows. Then you invite your team or your clients and set who sees what. It began in 2019 as a front end for Airtable. It has grown into a full platform with its own databases, automation and AI agents. Softr is based in Berlin, led by co-founder Mariam Hakobyan, and says more than a million builders use it.
What does Softr do?
Apps come first. Portals for clients, vendors and partners lead the use cases on the site. Internal tools such as CRMs and inventory systems, dashboards and knowledge bases follow. You build from a template or a blank page, and every block is drag and drop. Roles and granular permissions decide which users see which records. That is the feature that makes a client portal safe to share.
The AI Co-Builder is the newer layer. Describe what you need and Softr generates the interface, database and workflows, which you then adjust visually. Ask AI adds agents that run on your data using OpenAI and Anthropic models. Softr also exposes an API and an MCP server, so outside agents can work with your apps.
Data can live in Softr's own Databases or come from elsewhere. Native connections cover Airtable, Notion, Google Sheets, HubSpot, monday.com, ClickUp, Coda, Supabase, MySQL, PostgreSQL and any REST API. Workflows automate multi-step processes across those tools, and the site pitches them as a replacement for Zapier, Make and n8n. Forms collect data with conditional logic. Business plans turn an app into an installable mobile app with push notifications.

Basic adds a custom domain and conditional forms. Pro removes Softr branding and adds Google sign-in, granular permissions, comments and custom code. Business adds two-factor authentication, domain-restricted sign-up, the installable mobile app and priority support. Extra app users start at $1 a month each on Pro and $2 on Business. Enterprise adds single sign-on, SCIM, audit logs and a success manager.

Where does Softr fall short?
App users are the real price. Basic includes five client users, and a portal for 40 clients means Pro at $99 plus extra seats. The jump from $19 to $99 to $329 is steep for a small team.
AI credits are thin. Five to a hundred credits a month covers a few generated apps or agent runs, not daily use. Softr's AI is a starting point, not the workspace.
Design freedom is limited. Reviews praise how fast simple portals come together and note that complex, production-grade apps push against the block-based layout. A rival's review concludes Softr is best for portals rather than full applications.
Mobile is a web app. There is no native App Store or Play Store build. The installable app on Business is a progressive web app.
The Airtable roots still show. Many templates and tutorials assume an Airtable base, and the site is actively courting Airtable users to migrate.
Is Softr worth trying?
Yes, and the Free plan is enough to find out. Build the portal or tracker you actually need with your real data and share it with five people. If it holds up, Basic at $19 is fair for a solo operator. Pro at $99 is fair for a team that would otherwise buy a SaaS seat each. Trustpilot's 4.3 from 73 reviews and a track record since 2019 make it a safe choice in this category. If you need a native mobile app or heavy custom logic, look at Bolt.new or Lovable AI instead.
