TubeBuddy Review: YouTube SEO, A/B Tests and Bulk Tools From $12 a Month

TubeBuddy is a YouTube optimisation toolkit that runs as a browser extension and a web app. It finds keywords, scores your title, tags and description as you upload, and A/B tests thumbnails on live videos. It also does the dull channel work in bulk, from end screens to cards to comment replies. The company says 10 million creators use it.

What does TubeBuddy do?

Search and ranking come first. Keyword Explorer shows what viewers search for and how crowded each term is. SEO Studio scores a video in real time while you write its metadata and tells you what to fix. Rank Tracker follows where your videos sit in YouTube search, and Insta-Suggest offers tags as you type.

Click-through is the second job. The A/B testing tool rotates two thumbnails or titles on a published video. It measures real click-through rate and declares a winner. Thumbnail Analyzer grades a design before you upload it. A Thumbnail Generator and a Title Generator draft options for you.

Planning tools sit on top. Next Video Ideas and the Video Topic Planner suggest what to make next. Niche Leaderboard and Competitor Scorecard show who is winning in your space. Channelytics, the Health Report and the Retention Analyzer cover your own numbers.

The productivity side is where TubeBuddy still beats newer tools. Bulk editors change end screens, cards and descriptions across hundreds of videos at once. Scheduled publishing, canned comment replies, channel backup and a chapter editor round it out. It does not write scripts.

Which features stand out?

  • A/B testing on live videos — rotates thumbnails or titles and picks the winner by real click-through rate.
  • SEO Studio — scores title, tags and description while you fill them in.
  • Keyword Explorer — YouTube search volume and competition for any term.
  • Bulk editing — end screens, cards, find-and-replace and thumbnail overlays across the whole channel.
  • Next Video Ideas — topic suggestions, limited on Pro and unlimited on Enterprise.

How much does TubeBuddy cost?

There is a free plan with no card required, with a limited set of tools. Two paid plans cover one creator each.

  • Pro: $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly. Basic title, tag and thumbnail tools, content strategy and audience tools, and limited Next Video Ideas.
  • Legend: $32.99 a month, or $26.39 a month billed yearly. Full search and SEO access, advanced analytics, bulk processing and the full Next Video Ideas tool.
  • Enterprise: custom pricing. For brands with three or more channels, with unlimited users, training and dedicated support.

Read the small print before you pick a plan. Pro and Legend are for individual creators only. TubeBuddy can treat you as a business at 50,000 subscribers or more. Three channel managers, several channels or 50 employees also count. Businesses are pointed to Enterprise.

Who is TubeBuddy for?

Creators who publish often and want to test thumbnails properly. The A/B tool uses real click data on your own videos, not a predicted score.

Channels with a large back catalogue. The bulk editors save hours whenever you change a sponsor link, an end screen or a playlist across old videos.

Creators who care about search traffic, such as tutorials, reviews and how-to channels, where ranking for a phrase still matters.

Where does TubeBuddy fall short?

Billing complaints dominate its reviews. Trustpilot shows 2.5 out of 5 from 26 reviews. Most low scores describe charges after cancelling, or no renewal notice. Set a reminder before the renewal date and keep the cancellation email.

The ideas side is thinner than the rest. Next Video Ideas is limited on Pro, and there is no script writer at all. Tools built around outliers, such as vidIQ and 1of10, go further on what to make next.

The tag focus has aged. Several of its scores still lean on tags and keyword placement. YouTube itself says tags play a small role in discovery. Some reviewers say the tag and title advice did not move their numbers.

The business clause can bite a growing channel. Once you pass 50,000 subscribers, TubeBuddy may decide you need Enterprise, which has no published price.

Is TubeBuddy worth trying?

Yes, for the A/B testing and the bulk tools, which few rivals match. Start on the free plan to try the extension. Take Legend on yearly billing if you test thumbnails every week. If you mostly need topic ideas and scripts, vidIQ covers more of that for a similar price. For a pure idea finder, look at Spotter Studio or 1of10.
